Lucio Fontana #2

Alfredo Jaar: "Lucio-Fontana Visits His Studio on his return from Argentina,1948", 2013. (bron: Artobserved)

"....
The work consists of three elements. When you enter the space you will first be confronted with a very large lightbox suspended from the ceiling. This lightbox contains an image from Lucio Fontana — an Italian artist of Argentine origin — and he is seen in this image from 1946 visiting the ruins of his studio after the Second World War.

After you see that image you continue on in the space and you see a stylized bridge. It crosses the entire pavilion from left to right. It’s a sort of threshold: you must cross it to continue your journey and, of course, it echoes all the bridges of Venice. On top of this bridge, in the middle, you will find a metal pool filled with water. The water is dark, the same color as that of Venice. Every three minutes, from inside the pool, emerges a model reproduction of Biennale in the Giardini, with the 28 pavilions.

This model emerges slowly from the water for ten to fifteen seconds then submerges again for another three minutes.
